Dual-Channel RAM and Vista

I was wondering which would be better:
-Running 2 GB of RAM (2x 1GB identical sticks) for dual-channel
or
-Running 3 GB of RAM (1x 2GB and 1x 1GB) for the sake of quantity

i ask this because i have asked about RAM elsewhere and some tell me the first option is superior while others say the second is better if i run vista. this confuses me so i hope for some clarification from the habitants of battleforums!
