Mike Judge (head of the show) didn't want it to continue, so it stopped midway through it's 12th season. Since Judge and Fox had a huge falling out over his "The Goode Family" or whatever his new POS show is on ABCFamily, they asked Seth McFarline to come up with something to fill the slot while they activly find a new program for the 7:30/8:00 time slot.

And thus, the Cleavland show was born.

Timing had nothing to do with it. McFarline literally created The Cleavland Show as a show to fill in the slot. As in, if fuckhead didnt want to abruptly stop KOTH the cleavland show wouldnt exist
