I really only like Tactics, out of the bajillion.

Same here, except I found Final Fantasy 8 to be really fun, and have a captivating story along with lush romance scenes. wWhat cought me the most is Squall slowly starting to care about Rinoa. I love how most Final Fantay's have romance, but 8's is especially heart-worming to me.

8 just seemed different to me.. i loved that one. i liked how Square was able to mix old-style melee weapons like Squalls gBlade and Quistis's whips and the nunchukus along with futuristic weapons.
ive always loved games that mix old time in with the new- just like they did with 8.
i also loved the deal with the Gardens and progressing through the game as being part of a school and receiving grades to obtain your salary.

there was just something about the gameplay and the story of that one particular game that seemed to set it off from the rest with me. ive always been a fan of sci-fi films, like Starwars, Aliens, starshiptroopers.. etc. 8 had some of that in it.
and yeah.. i guess the romance of the plot got to me a bit to.

did anyone else think Squall had died before watching the credits? it shows (i think Selphie) fimlimg the party and zooming on everyone, then Rinoa, but no Squall...

As far as it being called Final Fantasy, it's true. The original FF game was a last resort by Squaresoft, before they would be forced to go bankrupt. They just kept the title, because it works.

They are all great and have their quirks. My least favorite would probably be VIII because it's so easy, followed by the FF I & II: DoS port, and lastly FFX-2.

I couldn't imagine a final fantasy more different from another then seven to eight.

(well yeah, 1 and x2 are pretty different, so I guess I'll say a sequel, but what about six and seven... let's just say they're totally different!)

7) Main character is a brooding machoman(that isn't macho) with a sword with a shady past, that used to be in love with character A, but now in love with character B, which something bad happens to, which also has villian A who was directly tied to Main Character, who tried to take over the world, and nearly succeeds.

Yeah, sounds about the same to me.

tactics... omg for the ps1.. best FF EVER IMO

it made you think more than - attack... magic > ultima = i win

you had to move - use elevation, and other tactical maneuvers

it also had a kickass story and you could get cloud for all of you FF7 junkies

Tactics definately wasn't for the faint of heart. It was such a great game, and I hate how dumbed down FFT:A was. If Tactics: Advance didn't allow you to retrace moves from the point of right before the end of your turn, it would be just as frustrating though, and not a half bad game. Too much of a crutch though.
