Do you guys ever use OTHER mercs...

besides the act 2 mercs with auras? for every build there's always a post that says something like, "well, an act 2 merc will be perfect for your char."

I know the aura is an added bonus for them, but what chars would be good with mercs other then the act 2 mercs?

Hehe normally when I'm playing single player, I like to use Act III Cold mercs.

It's usually either act 2 or 5... most characters need a tank as a companion, not a crappy sorc (act 3), or an archer who dies in seconds in hell (act 1).

for dueling, i saw someone with an a3 merc. He was a pally using infinity, enigma, fcr helm, fcr ammy, mages, fcr rings, arach, e treks and his merc was a fire merc with the gear that stacks holy fire, i believe it was, hoj, dragon, dragon, and something else i dont remember last one, but anyway he sure did own that whole game, and he used foh sometimes, but most of the time his merc would kill everyone.

i have always wanted to try making an act1 frozen arrow merc using ice bow, nightwings, and fort. i think that could be successful.

The only reason i always use Act2 mercs are that they are good with gear you can find easily. I put crap on my act1 merc and she dies before i know it. I mean i got crap i found on my merc and he does 1.5k easily.

I used a act 3 aura merc for my MF Sorc, before I got endgear for my Hammerdin. Reason being, I don't need a tanker really since I tele everywhere, but I do need other elements for immunes.

For the most part IMO people use act 2 mercs because they are good physical damage (tankers if done well) and have just enough magical/elemental damage to effect everyone. They are a great balance of offense and defense. All the other act mercs work well depending on your character and their gear, but each is either offense or defense. Not to mention their is none to my knowledge that hits all enemies at the same time/or helps all partied members at the same time.

A3 AURA MERC!? Where? I must see this!

It's stacked runewords like Dream, Dragon, Phienox, that make the aura not a merc in act 3 that has aura. Not sure if that was what you thought I meant.

Apparently this bug allows the act3 mercs to do insane damage, giving them quite a bit more value in general.

I don't use Act 2 Mercs because of their auras. I like their attack power. My Merc has an Attack Rating bonus, which doesn't really help me because I'm a Sorceress.
