This is the game I'm currently playing. It has a very interesting story-line, but it's rated M. Therefore, anybody under the age of 17 should be leaving :p

In anycase, the game opens with your team getting infected by a very interesting...virus. This virus is a catalyst to unleash your team's "true" personalities. You become demons (actually "devil gods" in the Japanese version). You also learn, quickly during the course of all this, that you are in some sick, twisted version of an all-out gang war in a post-appocoliptic "junkyard" fighting for turf and glory.

Who's played it? Who likes it? Who's even heard of it?

It's an old game in Japan, but it's a fairly recent release here in the US (only a month or two), and the sequel is coming Q3 (already out in Japan, I believe).

It's an odd kind of RPG. The battles are random, and they're difficulty is purely based on your detective skills. You make it easier by learning the enemies quickly. The turns go by in a fashion that I haven't seen in a turn-based RPG before. You attack and have random chance to earn an extra "move" for your team via critical. You are garunteed an extra attack if you can hit the enem(y's/ies') elemental weakness. The same is true for your enemy, however, so watch out.

The skill system works much like Xenosaga (note: I consider the orb system in FFX to be very different from the skill system of Xenosaga) where you earn points. The main difference is that you purchase skill trees called Matras that you level up with devil points called Atma. You will end up wanting to balance your skills out to prevent an enemy from taking advantage of you.

I'm enjoying the stylization and story, so far. I'm definately going to want to pick up Digital Devil Saga 2; but I'll spend money on Fire Emblem(GC) and LoZ: Twilight Princess(GC) first.

Ack >_< If you like RPGs and are 17+, you should get this game. It is one of the best RPGs I've played on the PS2. I still like Tales of Symphonia (GC) better, but DDS is certainly a good/great title. It's certainly better than FF VII - XI.
