Diablo Difficulties...

Well, i have installed diablo on my home computer, which has windows98 on it, and then i installed the exspansion, and when i try to load it, it semi-loads, and then there is a little white rectangle in the upper-left hand corner, and the screen is totally black, i waited for like 2 mins for it to load, and then everything freezes, and u cant push any keys to get it to minimize, or close out...tried everything ctrl+alt+delete...alt+f4...but nothing works, u have to unplug my comp. And i need to know how to fix this, and i need someone with computer experience. please no newbs say stuff like i dont know, never had that happen to me...so if anyone knows the answer, or can help please help...lol

Oh yeah...i tried to un-install and then re-install, and it does the same thing. Everything is the same as when you install it...version 1.07, and all the normal files. thanx guys...peace!!

make sure you run the graphics-test (should run while installing) before starting game ... you could to run it in window mode jsut to see what happens ... I assume that your comp has got a graphic card...am I right?

if that doesnt work get the d2loader and try again (in the sticky)

well, one problem is i dont have my computer hooked up to the net, only my parents...im getting it in like a month, ill try to run the test again. I can burn loader onto a disk or something, and load it like that. and yes...i have a graphic card...lol. I'll try what you said, but do you have any other suggestions?...ty again. peace!

hmm not sure if it works with original exe ... but you could try:

create shortcut and add "-w" to your target-line, like this:

"C:\Games\Diablo II\Diablo II.exe" -w

try to download the newest driver for your graphics-card too

no hehe ... this is nothing compared to what I have seen

You'll have to check what graphic-card you got ... you can look it up in the hardware-manager (think thats what it called...not sure since I got german comp ) ... then go to their homepage and look for a new driver ... install it, then run the d2-graphic-test again ... also download the 1.10 patch for d2 from blizzards site ... try to run in window mode if this doesnt help ... this only happens with d2 or with other games too? if this is a common problem: format your computer

yeah dude...well, this is only a problem with diablo. i can get the net on that comp right know, and install the latest driver or w/e. Im going to put d2 in windows mode. And i dont know how to, or wut it is meant by formating your computer...by the sounds of it, it's kinda hard. And if u think that it will help, can u tell me what it does, how i do it, and the whole 9 yards?...ty starfish.

if u have loader, maybe u use some plugin that screw up the game, (tryd 2 use some1s mh and it screwd my d2 it was loaded but conde't see the window. try 2 remove the plugins and try again.

thanx, but the only think in my plugin folder is pickit...and that might be the problem, cuz i have been hearing of win98 problems with pickit...and thanx for that reminder...peace!

Well the problem was that it wont pick the items up(doenst work for wins98) but now they fixed the problem.

Formatting is lik installin windows.

Reformatting is installing windows again, cuz probably u got a virus in it(and doesnt kno how to get rid of it), or just feel lik it.

WEll one last thing wat you should do is run the D2 graphics tester it will be in your start menu folder and where d2 is installed its called D2VidTst run it and ur screen will flicker a few times then it will give u like 2 options one for 2d and one for 3d and since your having problems with ur comp being slow and such i suggest using the 2d setting(its hardly a noticable difference) now since you say you have a slow ass comp I'm thinking you may not have a video card(connected to an AGP slot or a PCI slot) you can tell this by where the monitor plugs into if you have a vertical case then if you plug your monitor in near the bottom of the case you have a video card and if its near the top you have onboard video. You may need to update the video drivers if you have problems with it yo can see wat video card you have by going My Computer>Right click on window click prperties>click hardware tab>and then device manager> click on display adapters and there your card. It most likely is NVidia or ATI. You can get drivers for these at www.ati.com or www.nvidia.com. I hope this helped you. Oh yah and I think you may need to reinstall your d2 one more time because I dont think 1.10 loader isnt compatible with 1.07 unless you updated. I hope this helps

well, i will see if it helps, and yes i did update the patch, and everything, but know im unistalling, and reinstalling and then running the video test, like u said, then im updating again, and lets hope it works!...and i love you guys here at BF...
