I have played Diablo, but just got Diablo 2 for Christmas, so I have two questions.

1) I just started a char on Battle.net and it created a 'ladder' character. What is a ladder character. should I recreate this char and uncheck the ladder char box?

2) Also, if I play solo, what is the difference between playing on line or playing single char mode? any reason to play online?

Thanks for any help...

1.Ladder there is a lot less bugged items. I suggest it.
2. The multiplayer experience is much better, gaining friends, doing quests, it'l be a lot funner online, IMHO.

in diablo II there are ladder and non ladder characters. this was done in the 1.10 patch because everyone hit lvl 99 so ez and the ladder was froze, they seperated the characters, every so often (called seasons, not sure if they go with the seasons) the ladder is reset, and all ladder characters change to non ladder (therefore reseting the ladder, giving new ppl the oportunity to get on it)

i advise you do this, play ladder, because since u are noob (no offense) you have no gear, and non ladder is more decked out than ladder.

multiplayer (battle.net) is playing online on bnet servers. your chatracter is not saved on yoru hard drive, thsu cannot be edited as in diablo I.

single player is to play offline alone. the character is saved to your hard drive and is able to b eedited

"other mulitplyer options" such as open bnet and tcp/ip games allows you to play your signleplayer characters online, although u must host games on your own computer, which causes major lag and ability to use many cheats.

Closed battlenet Ladder is your best bet since y ou are noob.
