My pastor and his brother at my church, Fellowship, are doing a service on the new novel, The DaVinci Code.

I think this will be great because it's a great book that even though it underminds most of what christians stand for, it has absolutely no historical backing. But niether does the bible.

Here is the link with more information:
Decoding The DaVinci Code

It's a 2 weekend service, and you can watch each message online 1 week after it's presented. The first message was today.

Well yes I guess.. but minimal. And not to mention it was written by men. Men tend to change or stretch things.

How about spending less time on debunking historical fiction and more time trying to argue against people like Laurence Gardner. That would make my day. And by all means, tell me you don't know who he is.

Well, if you are christian then you would know that the Bible was actually written by god and given to man.

Otherwise if your not then you are entitled to wat you believe.

Oh and who is laurence gardner ^^

I am Christian, and read the Bible, it says in there itself it's written by man. They're all the stories of mans lives living with Jesus etc.

Actually, if you were Christian, then you would know the Bible was inspired by God but written by man.

Oh and who is laurence gardner ^^
Amongst other things, he's a member of the Knights Templar, a historian, and author of "Bloodline of the Holy Grail."

I thought "The DaVinci Code" was a great book, but despite the fact that it has historical references and backings, it is still one man's interpretation of fact and is therefore fiction. I can imagine using it to teach lessons and such, but I can't really imagine basing an entire sermon off of it. Sounds like it would be interesting to listen to, though. Maybe I'll go check it out....

hmm i had to memeorize this verse the other day...

2(or first i cant remember) peter 20:21 or so

knowing this first that no prophesy of scriptures is of any private interpritation, for no man of free will wrote the scriptures, but holy men of god spoke as they were moved by the holy spirit.

thats ONE verse that clearly states that humans cant write the bible because they wanted to but were inspired to as they were moved. Hey, guess what, the bible spans over 1000's of years and yet it is still quite accurate to what it contains.

Hey wanna know something interesting? A group of students went to mt st helens to do some carbon dating tests on deep rock they found at the bottom of a lake and this lake was newly filled about 20 years ago by crusted magma. Once they tested it, it came back as being something like 10 million years old. Interesting...

It also says God is always right, doesn't it? You said it was still "quite" accurate, but it is for sure not 100% (refer to that Bible contradictions thread). Anyway, God is always right, but he wrote a book that isn't 100% right. Ummm.... what?
And please, for the love of Christ, never talk of carbon dating again. Carbon dating measures the amount of carbon-14 in once living tissue. Solar rays react with nitrogen in the air to form carbon-14, which, in turn, creatures then breathe. Carbon dating is done by examining how much carbon would be in the tissue if it had X years to decay. CARBON DATING is NOT done on ROCKS. INTERESTING...

Go read Angels & Demons, by Dan Brown, Akule. :p

Been doing some major studying in this area over the past few months. Learned all exactly why everything Dan Brown says is wrong(most of it), and how he has no proof.
