What do you think about deafness?

im taking sign language so i have to learn about deaf culture. most deaf citizens do not wish to have a coclear implant(allows them to hear MUCH better than they ever could before) because they would rather be deaf and keep their deaf roots than talk.

Is this serious discussion? Because by the looks of this post you're not being serious. If you are by chance serious, then I imagine you need a good beating, with a leather belt preferably.

As for the subject, I'm not sure what can be said. It's pretty much personal choice. I can't sit here and preach to a deaf person since I have no clue what they experience on a daily basis.

Although I can't imagine being unable to listen to Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Mozart, etc... The thought of losing this ability is distressing to say the least. For those who were born deaf, they most liekly don't realize what they're missing.

I used to be partially deaf (when I was an infant). I had a hearing aid and went to a college with my mum and there I learnt sign language. I didn't need the sign language as i went to a normal school. I don't know many deaf people but the ones i know either have an aid or a implant. I think that it’s important to keep the roots, but it’s a no-brainer over here, it is more necessary than it is a luxury

When I was born I had managetis (deadly diesease) I did survive though, but it toke my right ear. All the nerves in my right ear had died and you can't rebuild it. So I'm permently deaf in my right ear. It really sucks because for example when your in a movie and your friends sittin next to you talking to you and your tryin to listen to the movie all you hear is your friend. (This went kinda off topic but just telling you my side).

Wow we're both lucky, but i still can't imagine being half deaf permanantly let alone being fully impaired. In future just tell your mate to shut up .
