D2 LOD Run without CD (NO LOADER REQUIRED!)

Ok guys, I just installed d2 on a new machine I built and figured I would do a step by step since I hate CD swapping, this requires you to have or borrow a D2 LOD Cd or at least get an image from somewhere. You also need to obtain a copy of Alcohol 120% **This can be done with CloneCD and DaemonTools as well but Alcohol does it all in 1 tool.**

Using Alcohol 120%

1: Install D2 & Expansion Pack like normal
2: Fire Up Alcohol and click the image burning wizard.
3: Diablo II Uses SecurROM *New Protection to keep you from making a copy.
4: Select "SecurROM *New" from the Datatype drop down List
ensure that the check boxes below are checked as follows:
[x] Skip reading errors
[ ] Fast skip error blocks
[x] Read Sub-Channel Data from current disc

5: Click Next
6: Select CloneCD Image file(*.ccd) from the Image format dropdown
(MDS would probably work too, but I just used ccd)

7: Click start

8: Once the Image finishes It should eject your CD and the image should be listed in the main Alcohol window.
9: If you havent installed any virtual devices you can do so by clicking the virtual device icon in the options window on the left.
10: There should be no other options that need to be changed for D2LOD in Alcohol.
11: Right click the Image name and mount the Image on a virtual device.
12: Start the game as you normally would.

I am going to have to do this as soon as I can get my hands on a LOD cd. My copy is in my dorm room in New Orleans and is...quite inaccessible.

Or how about you head over to www.gamemunchers.net and go download my already made .mds and tutorial for this. The file is at http://shawnjcox.sh.funpic.org/d2mini/miniLOD.rar all you need is Daemon-Tools or Alchohol 120% and mount it. If it doesn't work then you might need to turn on securom emulation, but most people don't. Also when you go to load it up make sure you don't have any backup cds in the drive as it usually tries to read those first.

Good article, I also use a no-cd which works on B.net completely. I use Virtual CD instead and a little registry modification and takes just a couple of minutes.-Timg

About 3 or 4 weeks ago there were 2 diff threads people wanting to do this. This is really useful for people who depend on loaders/no-cd cracks to play. When 1.11 came out all the loaders quit working. I'm just lazy and hate cd swapping , and with alcohol you can even make the shortcut load the appropriate game image when you double click it.

*Generic Reason*
A) To Keep Your Cd's in good shape.

Well *MY* situation goes like this.

I have a webserver and my personal computer running on the same UPS. If both machines are under heavy load, ie gfx card, sound card, hard drive, processor, and the cd burner all pulling at once, combined with the constant load on my webserver I sometimes get the UPS up to where it is in overload mode. I have quite large power supplies on both machines, as well as multiple HDD's in both. Thus Rather than sitting there and listening to my UPS bitch at me I use the above solution.

There are two very valid reasons for using a CD backup is that explanation enough?

I still can't get to my cd due to a major hurricane that killed hundreds of people. Won't be able to get back to my dorm until Jan. 17th. The cd may or may not even still exist. Good enough reason?

And im sure there are plenty of other valid reasons, your post just comes off rather offensive. Almost like you're saying the only reason people would need/want to use this is if they pirated the game. Even if that was the case then they could just burn it to a CD and not need this, so the question is a bit out of line.

just wondering could the same tatictics work with nero? cause i have nero and i recall somewhere in it it said something about a virtural drive.

Note: i'll go digging around in that to see if i can pull that off. chances are i don't know wtf i'm doing and will be back here again, or scraching around for 120%
