I've posted this on LWS (LivingWithStyle) and the Battle.net forums but no one seemed able to help me so I'm posting the thread here in hopes that someone can help me.

http://forums.livingwithstyle.com/showthread.php?t=1869903021

I've had D2 and LoD for a few years and just recently started playing again. Everything worked fine for quite a while (long enough to have an 88 pally and an 80 sorc).

Randomly, one day, when I tried to launch LoD, I got this error:

I've tried, uninstalling/reinstalling, removing all diablo2/lod/battle.net associated entries, and uninstalling/reinstalling DVD-Drive. I have no other idea what else to try. All my CDs, CD-Keys, Items, etc.

Yes, the CD was, and still is, in the drive. The auto run executes fine, it can even Install. It can read the CD fine as far as I can tell. When I would uninstall and reinstall, I could launch the game using the 1.07 patch that was installed from the CD. This only started happening when battle.net made me download the 1.11 patch.

It's as though the game refuses to run on 1.11...to the point that it doesn't acknowledge the CD that my Drive can read.

Any ideas?
As suggested in the thread, I upgraded the firmware for my drive and that didn't solve the problem.

Have you guys tried emailing Blizzard? I know their tech support is kind of slow, but they might be helpful.

Whenever I got that message I just took it out of the drive and wiped it off on my tshirt or a towel or something, and it would usually start working again. :/

try this:
uninstall d2 and everything
go to programfiles>diabloii delete that folder too.

reinstall, patch manually from battle.net's ftp site or whatever to 1.11. try now and see if it will work. If it fails you probably have a copied cd that u burned incorrectly or u could find a no cdpatch google "hellkiller's no cdpatch ... " he's always upto date. try it again.

Actually, it started working this morning. Plus, the Alcohol thing does work. I just did it wrong.

As well, its possible you can create a mini-image of the LoD disc to save space...not sure how but I'm sure google can help.
