You're up against an opponent. You both turn and see eachother at the same time. He's at medium-long range, you're both in the open, you've got a rifle, and you don't know what his primary gun is--it could be an MP5 or a sniper rifle. Also, you don't have time to check the player's score or name--you don't know what his skill level is; he could be the best CAL-league player you've ever come across, or he could be a complete newbie who doesn't know which button makes his gun shoot. Also, you don't know what server you're on. Could be some random public 30-slot fragfest dust-only server, or a league-level private server filled with clan members.

Explain your answer a bit. I wanna know why you guys do what you do.

Alright, I modified my hypothetical situation. Point is, you're in a do-or-die situation and you have to make a choice. But the choice is between strafing and crouching, not between do or die.

I would assume that most players, despite skill level, crouch to increase the accuracy of their own shots. However, I have come to realize that almost every time I try to crouch while I'm being shot at, I get hit in the head. I've grown a habit of strafe-shooting any opponents standing at anything beyond a medium distance, specifically when I don't know what weapon that opponent has.

Depends.

If he hasn't turned enough to shoot or is he looking dead at me? If hes looking, and I can't double jump to a corner(This is more of a CAL thing) I would strafe until I can get behind something or until I can tell his weapon is weak. If he gets more than 2 shots on you though; you should crouch and go for the shot. Most of the time you want to play as passive as possible and pick guys off.

Oh, and for the do or die... I would still try to get out of his view. I would go for a shot while strafeing, but my main objective would still be to get behind some cover.

So.. only crouch if you are about to die.

Edit: I see Akule has learned alot.

strafe. never crouch.

its not my opinion. its the truth.

long range. tru. you crouch its easier to hit your head. and vital parts. because 90% of people aim for bigger parts of you. IE chest/body area. when you crouch your basically a big blob. easier to hit. because your not moving much.

so what if you get better aim? thats not ness. true. if you know how to use the gun your wielding than crouching or not crouching people can pick your ass from 900 yards away only see'ing a little dot. without even crouching.

Strafing = good aim and your harder to hit. just dont be predictable.

practice strafing and know how to aim. its wayyyy betta than crouching.

i do long range glock/usp. glock you can shoot super duper fast and still be pretty accurate. but usp gets a little crazy sometimes. i take timed shots. slowly but accurate. i usually get HS.

remember the farther the person is the less you need to move your aimer. the closer the person is the more you move your aimer. practice aiming for the head when you strafe shoot.

There's the kind of answer I was looking for. Methinks I duck too much...

i totally agree with the never crouch in that situation.

like he said, most people aim for the chest and if you duck when their aimed at your chest, guess where their aimed now?

Straffing is BY FAR the better option, if your crouched, your just a sitting duck, what if someone comes behind you? your just sitting there crouched like a nub. When your doing straffing people usually cant hit you as often. And also i agree with cota god a little, if your straffing in one of those battles that never end, jump crouch shoot strafe again, you always gotta do the unexpected, because then they have to react to what you just did and throws their aim off a little by thinking what your going to do next.

You have to get good at straffing though, you have to be able to shoot and dodge accurately. But this is do or die situations, you always want to draw out as much time as possible, because when it gets down to the wire, they are gonna rush like crazy which leave you an advantage because they have to come to you and your already in your spot waiting for them. And when your on t, and you know how to throw good flashes and nades then you can take out people in a final rush. (smokes always help too) Always go for the unexpected, the funny thing is, sometimes the unexpected is the most obvious spots because they think that no one is nub enough to camp there, always catch your opponent off guard, gives you more time to react to the situation

don't take a habit to do something.
most of the times, you might strafe, because it makes you harder to be aimed. BUT, if all you can do if strafe... everybody will know that and be prepared against it. try to confuse you enemy with some strafe jumps then crouch, then strafe, or just crouch and shoot.
do things in a random way, so they can never predict what you will do.

What gun do you have? colt = crouch and ak = strafe. You will most likely get hit while running for cover so don't give up hits without getting one yourself, but since the ak is horribly inaccurate in a crouch spray it's best to hide and pop out once the crosshair settles.
