Counter-Strike Problem *sending me back to desktop*

Whenever I start up the game from Steam, I get this loading screen with the two CT guys on a blue background. But the thing is, that I don't see the menu at all, and after few seconds, the game exits by itself and sends me back to the desktop with a 640x480 resolution.

How can I get this thing to work?

My PC is a
- Pentium-III 866 MHz
- Windows ME
- 512 MB
- ATI Rage Fury Pro Pro/Xpert 2000

1) restart
2) re-install cs
3) re-install steam
4) re-format computer :rolleyes

I did the first 3 steps and I considered about the 4th one. But is it the only way?

Your computer is not liking it for some reason if you cant figure it out, im not sure.. ill try and look into it.

EDIT: Virus.. that or something if ****ing your comp up. :frustrate

Don't tell me I have to buy a new graphic card for Counter-Strike? Version 1.5 was working very well. (But ever since I played 1.5, I formatted my PC a few times. Maybe I have to format?)

You could atleast try.. have you read the steam forums for a question like this?

I think you might need some new drivers for your graph card possibly.
