Well, here I am, starting my color list making project with GIFs of all of the colors pasted into a nice word document of every tile set. Nasty job, that. Well, it just got worse. As I was making it, I noticed that every so often, the colors would change if I rebooted the map in Starcraft. Thinking that it was the 1 AM lack-of-sleep affect, I thought nothing of it.
But, it wasn't.
That's right, folks, not only does the tile set alter the color of most of those units, but the colors can be different upon EACH GAMEPLAY of the map. That's why Hunter-Killer or whatever's list on Campaign Creations said that color x was blue and green, but turned out to be black speckled with orange the first time you played it and a white the second time you played it.
But, fortunately for you, I'm in the process of making a color list accompanied with GIF images of a marine, zergling, flag, score bar, and leader board box. Eventually it will apply to every tileset, but as I have a life with school and scholarship applications and school activities and such, I will require some time to finish them all.
It will be by no means perfect. It will be decent, but nowhere near perfect, and may be missing some of the colors on the randomized ones. It will also take up a lot of space on those 486's and such that you find around every so often (got rid of mine five years ago, but I've met people using them on BNet before.) How much? I originally though 10 MB when completely done, but with all of the extra GIFs involved, it may take up to 20 MB. I've already filled my desktop with xxxColor.gif files, so I'm tired of saving each one as well, and have added them to an MSWord 2000 file in a list format. The list will probably be eight lists, one for each tileset.
I am...well, was...close to done with the Ash World color list, until I found out that I was not as sleepy as I previously thought and that the colors changed with each gameplay. After playing the game ten times, I have four different colors for number 98. I have no idea what the random color changing pattern is, although my only guess is that it is based off of colors from the terrain (as well as the tileset). I will probably tool around with the colors awhile, and gather most of the more common colors that pop up.
Expect the Ash World Color List sometime within the next week. Stuff gets crazy soon though, and I'll be getting college applications and all through the mail and, of course, there is always school. That stuff should eat away much of my time, but I will attempt to make more color lists for each terrain in the future. After this next rushed one, I'd expect another tile set of a color list every two weeks to a month, depending on free time available.
How will you get the color lists? I have no idea. It's not like I can post it as an attachment, with each one probably going to be over a MB unzipped. I will probably e-mail them to Virus and have him do the stuff to get them ready for downloading. I will work it out later, though, when I sort through the maddening random-color-change effect. I will probably mess with the terrain as well, to make sure that each terrain change doesn't add a new color and remove the old possibilities. But I have already done that once, and still ended up with some of the old colors upon gameplay.
But, just a heads-up for that color list and for your current inaccuracies with the others. Hope that nothing major happens to where I find out that accurately determining a unit color is impossible so that I am able to put out these lists.
And if my long essay was too much, heres a nice compact form for the blunt ones that hate reading:
Some colors randomly change each gameplay. Attempting to make eight new color lists with PICTURES included for all 256 colors on all eight terrains. Give me up to a week for the first one and two weeks to a month each for each of the following seven.
Oh, and here's a small GIF of what each little explanation of the colors may look like on my lists. Psycodelic madness, dude! Shows why words cannot explain the colors every time.
But, it wasn't.
