What do you guys think about Capital Punishment? I personaly think its alright, you should just help them by ending their life then and there instead of letting them rot in a cell.

I agree. Prisons would get overcrowded, causing the innocent civilians to pay more in taxes so the convicts can live. I can't picture a mass rapist sitting in a cell, eating, drinking, breathing...all of it thanks to the tax payers. There are crimes that deserve the death penalty. Now who should be the judge of those crimes is debatable.

Yes once again in theory so many of these ideas make sense. However in practice there are too many variables, and life is something that chances should not be taken on. I think to take someone's life is very serious and i wouldf be hesitant to legalise capital punishment (its still illegal in Australia) there is so much room for corruption, and as a Christian i dont' think its right to play God.

On the side if this is really something you are interested in you might like the life of David Gale.. or something like that. its a movie with Kevin Spacey.. very interesting.

Then you always have the argument of influence. Just how much at fault is someone when they commit a crime? Is it right to initiate such a harsh judgement when maybe this person was taught to be amoral their whole life?

Then again, I think that human beings know from right to wrong. Any crime extreme enough to deserve capital punishment is probably so disgusting that it would be a no brainer in terms of black & white.

LoL, maybe we should sacrifice people who are receiving the death penality for the sake of medical testing.

good idea:D

hell if a inmate is sentenced to a life sentence you might as well just end their life right then and there...... it might save the avg tax payer some money.

I agree they should be used for medical advance.
But as others said, who makes the choice?
If jurys in a criminal case where there pritty sure the guys guilty hes going to die, they may start having a little bit of doubt when the thought of his blood on there hands comes up. So by killing off some we may be lettin so many more out free.

If we did use them for medical testing, we would probably have a whole legion of pacifists trying to convict us =/.

Also, you have the problem of releasing people who have committed homicides. This is happening frequently; say, you send a serial killer to jail for life. He spends 10 years in jail, and shows "major improvement."

Then, after 10 years as a "model prisoner," the serial killer's family, or whatever, hires a lawyer to bring up the case that the serial killer has changed his ways. Because some judges can overrule other judges (Supreme > State > Local), they can free this supposedly "changed" serial killer.

So maybe we should kill them, for the sake of the majority.

One issue that has not been touched upon is that sometimes innocent people are sometimes committed of heinous crimes. My biggest problem with the death penalty is that there is a chance that we might be executing people that could later be proven not guilty.

One issue that I have never seen here is the castration of rapists. In the mildest implementation of this proposition inmates who have committed rape and want to be castrated should be allowed to be castrated if they want to.

For the most part, I disagree with the death penalty. There's a difference between doing what we think people deserve and doing what's right. I don't think we should try to play God. There's also the chance that the person could be innocent, and you can't exactly "undo" the death penalty.

Also, I think if we want to punish criminals, we shouldn't give them the freedom of death. Death is easy; it's living that's hard. Let them rot in jail as punishment.

Would we really be giving them the freedom of death? Most American prisons have cable, beds, bathrooms, workout areas, and other accomadations. IF a criminal has a good attitude while in prison, they get those benefits. They could very well be faking it, but either way they get the benefits. Now they aren't rotting in jail, they are living and eating off of our money.

That's true. But I still think having to spend your entire life in jail would be more of a punishment, because you still don't have any real freedom....

If we kill the people though before they're found innocent then no double jeopardy. lol
