Well, the fact that it is onboard means that it is going to drain your CPU pretty heavily trying to process the game. Get another video card. Onboard = pain.

I don't think any 256-meg video (on-board or a real card) should lag at all in UT2004. In order to play that game with full settings, a 128mb card would do. I suggest a Radeon x600 or a Geforce 6600. They're both top-of-the-line and around $200, I think.

You should know, MA, that it takes more than memory to run anything. There are video cards out right now with 1GB of video memory that couldn't handle UT99. They are for video editing and 3D engineering with a VERY limited GPU. That's what really matters, your GPU. I have a GeForce2 Ti 500 with 64mb of DDR that could smoke a GeForce 4 MX with 128mb DDR (if they made em) just because the GPU is so much better. Memory means dick (well...it doesn't...but still), GPU is where it counts. That's why the 128mb versions of the FX5700LE's clock better than the FX5700LE 256mb version. They have faster GPU's. They just can't handle as big a game. For instance, if you want to play WoW, the memory will serve you well, but things like UT2K4 where its more speed that size, the GPU will own you.

I hate posting after work...always rambling :(

Actually, 2k4 is less CPU-intensive than 2k3, believe it or not.

Your video card slices your RAM in half, TrOiK, so you may as well get a new video card. 128MB should be fine for you, or get 256MB so you can run games in the future too.*
