I've never used any editor other than the basic and the Xtra Editors.

Do any of the newer Star Forge and the like editors have it so you can increase range?

I guess what I'm putting this on is for the U232 shells the marines fire.
Since their upgrade adds range, I was wondering if you could increase this to say 255.
The Xtra editor won't seem to allow this.

I'm just imagining a defence style game where you place a few marines in a small spot in the map, and they can only kill what they can see through observers and the like.
That is if the range upgrade could be set to a high level.

{I am imagining quite a few newbee map makers drooling at this possibility as well.}

As far as I know, it can't be done without a mod.

Yup, I second that. Ive read the tutorials for every single editor I have and nothing was said about that. I think it has to be done with a mod, too. Besides, Heim said it, Its 99% true..

Darn...... I can see where that could make some interesting UMS.

Maybe this will be a new option in some future editor.
It just seems so logical to me that since a marine gets an increase of range with the U232 upgrade, if you could increase this upgrade level, you could in effect give him unlimited range.
I don't know the inner workings of the editors, but since it is an upgrade with a locked in default of 1, shouldn't there be a way to remove this lock?

I'll send an email to General Mengsk, if his address is still active, maybe he can include itin a version 2.7, if it's in the workings, or maybe a patch of some sort.

Like a dog with a bone, I don't want to let go of this for some reason.

Of all the years that Starcraft has been active, the whole time we have been discovering some new things to use, the changing of range to a unit is not possible. There are some things that we are allowed to change, such as damage, but Blizzard never intended for SC to be so in depth for Use Map Settings. They used UMS for single player only, and even then, its still a melee game. You can not change the range of a unit withought a mod, you can not change the amount the range increases, you can not expect in the near future, nor will you withought the use of a mod. Changing the range of a unit is beyond what UMS is capable of chaning, unless there is a program that can make a 'downloadable' mod included within the map. But unless you are a programing expert such as Heimdal, you can not change the range of a unit or look of a unit withought the use of a mod.

i agree with fake somewhat, but i used stargraft to make a mod that had marindes cloaked as they were made. alot stuf like that you could get from cam. but that is in the past. i think the only way youre going to be able to do that without a mod or additional upgrade is by changing the mpq's on every gamers pc so that it would work right...even then you would have people w/o the alteration and then the game would crash and still make it an unpopular map. i dont agree in that i do believe it may be possible...like i said through an additional upgrade in an editor. i doubt extra will have anything of the sort cuz it is still bound by the laws of the game where sf is not as bound.

i will edit when i think of more to say...im tired

Fake you couldn't make a mod or a program within the map. Just as a map cannot contain a virus it can't contain any program or a mod that would self run. The things you can change with the map editor are based on the restrictions of the game. Most likely the range for marines only has two varables. To change the varables for this upgrade would require you edit the game itself, and thats where modding comes in.

Yeah, he said that. It would be possible to make a memgraft-type program that recognizes newly downloaded maps and updates the memory in-RAM with any new mod data within the map. No one's done it yet...

So basicly you would have to download that program, and it would then extract the data from your maps? Still you would have to have that thing. Guess thats cool though.

Blargh, thats my idea! Actually I though of that when I was working on Trigger Happy. Think I'll just stick with my already in-progress maps though cause I'm about ready to move on pretty soon.
