Can anybody help me with a graphics task?

I'm into 3D modelling and animation with Lightwave. We recently got Lightwave 8.0, which is really good with image mapping characters. My problem is this:

The images used to wrap around an object and give it a texture are really weird and distorted! I have no clue how to make stuff like that. I'm talking about the images that are flat, yet show all the sides of an object. I need help on how to create them. Monday I'll post an example of one of the originals that came with the program, in case you guys still don't know what I'm talking about.

Search on google for UVmapper. You can use that to create an image of the mesh for painting textures on that don't look distorted when applied.

Come to think of it a simple RTFM would probably solve your troubles...
