Cable vs DSL

Who likes what better between the two and why?
Which one has better speed and capabilities?

Cable is usually faster but if a lot of people around you are using it at the same time it slows down. DSL is slower and the upload speed sucks. DSLs speed is mostly affected by the phone line and distance.

Well any other suggestions for what to get for internet? I will be moving out of my parents house soon and I need to know what I should get.

i pick what ever allows me to change ip when i disconnect and reconnect the modem

If you were moving to Canada here, then you are better off with Rogers Cable. Since if you get phone, tv and internet in one package, you save money. You need to think like that as well.

But as Ashigaru is right, DSL has many disadvantages. So personally, get Cable.

I have the shittiest DSL possible. It's fast enough to download songs quickly, surf the net, and it never goes down. What more could you ask for? Anything else is just overkill IMO.

Dsl owns here. Cable from shaw was worse then dial up its like 20kbs download speed is what I hit with it. I hit about 300 now. Literally it was unusable for me.

Cable:
-Generally Faster (Unless its "Prime time" your speed is directly effected by how many peopel around you are using the same cable at a time)
-larger upload
-static IP

DSL:
-Generally Slower (Unless its cables "Prime time") but more stable speeds due to not sharing with those around you
-CRAP upload compared to Cable
-Dynamic IP (For most, Some such as myself have Static with DSL D


imo get 5mb Cable, the only downside to having cable is the static IP (Not being able to change your IP address easily)

Depends on the ISP most of the time. Bell (DSL provider in Canada) has been known to have people switch over to Rogers more often because of customer-related problems. We were one of them.
