Brute forcer

ok i havn't ever hacked before so i dont know a ton about hacks, could some1 plz help explain how a brute forcer works? i know it cracks the password of an account but im asking how.....and also is there anyways to prevent some1 from using a brute forcer on u?

(im not askking for any links to download one i just wanna understand what it does a little more)

conncets to B.net by "bots" runs down the passwords in the list (1 per bot) and keeps trying passwords until one works or one doesn't

You can not prevent it but you can make it hard by starting your password with Z and make it very long and not be a written word (fire = bad password f4f4f4fi3ire333 would be better)

i changed it though after I had 544 failed logon attempts...

wow, some guy had a trojan from me and his password was "edc". When i saw it was just like WTF, but then he realized he had a Trojan, and do u want to know what he did? He changed the pass to "#äö", then he changed his mind and changed it to "+#äö". Seeing that in the Keylogger was real fun. All the time just like WTF!
