THen it started crashing on start up so I reformatted and I'm still getting the same error and random peridoic times. But its a different one each time. I know something serious is wrong with my laptop nw and was wondering do i need to scrap and go buy another or is there anyway to salvage my laptop?

go to your favorite warez site and download Eurosoft PC Check

burn it to a disk

stick it in your laptop and reboot to cd

select "immediate burn in test"

select "Select tests"

select all tests for the following options:
Processor(s)
Memory stick(s)
Video card
motherboard
keyboard
hard drive

once they area ll selected, hit F10 to save options,

select "Run Immidiate burn in tests"

hit enter through the screens (this will stop you from doing tests that will harm your data and continue through the ones that wont), should be about 4x times u have to hit enter

let the test run (make surel aptop is plugged in to wall)

once done, check to see what failed. any questions pm me/im me

never said I knew much bout laptops
Do you realize that "os" stands for operating system? it's probably windows based, it tells you in the booting screen and is usually obvious just by looking at the comp screen.

And I don't know much about cars, but i know who makes mine.

if its a BSOD it is either windows XP or earlier, since vista doesn't BSOD. So we ask what your os is.

Vista can still BSOD. It however reboots itself automatically on the event of a system crash.

No offense Glowpole, but this isn't something to be stupid about. And viruses don't exist within MP3 files, you must have gone to a site on IE or something and contracted something. Or you did something stupid with an EXE.

And if you thought it was a software problem, didn't you try reformating your drive and reinstalling Windows.

its obviously not software considering hes reformatted. follow the steps in my last post, youll know exactly what broke and can find out if its a 50 dollar fix or a 200 dollar fix.

in some cases an OS can become corrupted to the point of causing BSOD's, the thing is, this also causes it not to boot into windows 99% of the time, so if your computer allows you to get into windows at all then i highly doubt its software related.

less questions more running PC check as my first post said bentpole.
