This will not only help you revert to patches, but back-up them so you can easily "revert" to said patch in the future.
1. Make a folder for each version of d2 you want to back-up. We'll start with 1.11. This folder, in my example, will be called "111 backup". Made? Good. Now do a search in your Diablo II folder for "*.dll", copy and paste into this new location. Now, search for *.exe and copy them there, too. Then, merely grab your Patch_d2.mpq file, toss it in, and presto. Everything is nice and saved for 1.11. (Note: The Diablo II.exe AND game.exe ARE in fact needed for this)
2. Uninstall Diablo II, keeping the 111 backup folder.
3. Install the first patch you want to backup, repeat step 1 except make sure that you put it in a folder named the same way (109 backup, for example)
4. Repeat step 3 Until you are back at patch 1.11 which can just be installed by copying the contents in the 111 backup file over the current contents of your Diablo II folder.
5. When you want to revert to a previous patch merely copy the contents of the folder over the files in the Diablo II folder.
FAQ
Question: Why the hell are you telling us this? What good is it?
Answer: Fair question. There are some hacks, and some mods that do not work correctly on the newer patches (1.11 for example) and need to be run on a previous patches. Sometimes, you might want to play on 1.09 just for the fun of it. Doing this makes it a lot easier to do, without the slow reinstalling of Diablo II and having to keep patch files.
If it's at all possible could people post links to different patches? All I've got is 1.09, 1.11 and 1.11b. I'd appreciate it
Hope this helps people who were wondering how to revert.
