This is by far the best strategy games I have played this year, and I found it incredibly addicting. Marching Roman armies accross large battlefields tickled me. I had not played any of the games in the Total War series, but I am sure that this one is the best. The graphics first off were great.

When I took the house of Brutii, I had a great plan in mind. Though there was a brief alliance between us, Macedonia stood in my way. War with Macedonia brought Greece into my way. Foolish enough to attack my colonies, I amassed a great navy. landing my men into greece, Sparta fell before my might. Though I had a plan. By forging a brief ceasefire, I was able to build up arms, before crushing the states of Corinth and Athens and several Macedonian cities to the north of the Greek areas. Then Moving into Asia Minor crushing the final remnants of the Greeks. Tehn it came clear. Macedonia had escaped my wraith, but not for long. The final Macedonian city had taken refuge in Africa. Once I crushed them completely, I moved east ward. Taking and controlling Egypt and modern day Libya. Moving down from Asia Minor, and up from Egypt, I took Jerusalim and all thoes around in a simplisitc move. none escaped, all were exectuted. My influence had grown, but not in the Senate. The people declared they would bow to me as king.
I had grown powerful indeed, with a large navy, and several seasoned generals winning battles in the Middle East, when the Senate turned on me. They had the balls to declare me a threat and command my faction leader to commit suicide? Such was the means for war. Final as I refused thier demand, they lay siege to my Capital. But The house of the Brutii is strong. Holding out for a full 6 turns, enough for me to move my armies out of the Middle east, sparing the remnants of the egyptian army I had set out to conquer. One by one my fellow romans of the house of Julli and the house of scipii fell. Taking Sicily, and landing in spain I reign supreme. Finaly as my great armies marched upon the roman capital, there was no force strong enough. In a battle of over 4000 men, a heroic victory took place, the senate was defeated and I reigned supreme. Finaly after many naval conflicts, and great land armies clashing, the northern land, what was once Gaul, fell. With my spies, assassins, and diplomats, all skilled agents twisted my enemies into my possession. many armies understood my cause, with a small bribe. if not, they were assassinated. All was not well, all at once nearly 6 settlements revoleted. they thought themselves free. by my swift hand of jsutice crushed them, with 49 settlements, finaly totaly mine, I knew what must be done. The final force of 1500 men marched to a settlement, and was razed without so much as a formidable resistant. It was finished. 50 cities held, spaning the Italian penninsula, Greece, Macedonia, Egypt, Lybia, Jordan, Asia Minor, and parts of the middle east over 398 victorious battles, and 48 not so victorious battles the game ends. I win,
vini, vidi, vici
I came, I saw, I conquered

rome total war has generals. no special spells, but u can have alot of generals in one battle. Then the game has like battles with 2000+ units in it, where generals keep ur units in the right state of mind and not panicing.

Yeah but most games have adopt hero like units so it is hard finding a good strategy game without heros in them their are a few exceptions like most of the classic strategy games before warcraft 3.

See, pan, I told you that game owned :D

You wrote quite a great tale, there. My conquest of the world were off a different way, but I can't remember all the details. All I know is that, with Julii, I made my own goal to conquer Cartague, as I knew that the house of Scipii had that objective. That was how I crippled all and any attempt of conquest of power they had. Then I moved on to Gaul and to the Iberium Peninsulae (with the very personal goal of conquering my own country :D), as well as conquering the rest of western africa. When I finished it, I moved on to the Egypt, seeing that Greece was already under the control of the Brutii. Nonetheless, the conquest of Egypt, and with the provinces in Gaul and Italy I had, provided me with a colossal claw of war that I basicly used to crush my fellow Romans. Then, I marched upon Rome with the strongest army the world had ever saw. The Senate did not take too long to be destroyed, as 4 companies of siege onagers layed siege to Rome's gates. Soon, the Urban Cohorts legionaries advanced in Textudo and conquered the gateway and the towers nearby. Then, all of the Julii attacking army advanced into the city, bringing wreak havoc to the desmoralized armies of the Senate. In that day, my faction leader was declared Victor and Caesar of the Roman Empire. Then, as the game was nearly completion, and with some rebel cities, because, understandably, the bigger your empire is, the harder it is to control, easily controled by some companies of veteran legionaries, I moved on into the final conquest of the Seljucyds and the complete slaughter of the Macedonians. The Greeks were already mine, as I had conquered all of the Brutii house.
Fortune favors the bold.

Now, wait wait wait wait....you can conquer the world in this, or atleast a relatively large land mass, one right after the other? As in, not just a new game after a new game, but all in one sitting? You know what I mean right? I played the demo, and it is nice, but I'm torn between that and LotR: Battle for Middle Earth.

I've gotta admit, RTW is quite possibly the best strategy game this year, it combines real time strategy, with turn-based. And both are magnificently done. It is also damn addicting. And after you've conquered the world with your Rome. You can use other factions like Carthage (elephants!!!!) and conquer the other part of the world. I personally find Seleucid Empire to be the most fun (variety). But curse the Egyptians are tough.

Yes, you conquer Europe in only one game. There's no loadings, except for made battles and turns.

If it's better than Shogun I'll probably get it.
