i need some help for some more advanced way of defending my protoss base as for the many times i have played as the protoss the photon cannons have failed to defend my base. although i have used reavers they get destroyed and the same happens to my photon cannons soon after.

Play offensively. Only build photons for extreme reason like:
1. You're playing zerg who goes mutas as they're first tech.(many of them will)
2. Defending against vulture harassment.
3. Defending against possible a dt rush.

You should be playing " aggresively" and NOT defensively. You'll lose matter how well defended your base is.

start building some goons to attack and defence. the goons are moblie so they will chase any air units. add with a new uped zeal, the zeal go melle while goons go back up. works great for me

set like 2 cannons..... plus part of ur army at base....... dont send everything at once

photon cannons will never say your life, only save you time.... unless you have 100, but thats beside the point. A mixture of photon cannons around your structures with zlots for the floor and goons for the air are good enough for the beginning but as you progress strats change. I am not the biggest protoss player but try not to get over whelmed.

The basic protoss defense if high templars with observers (in the front) supported with some units able to attack. That can be zealots, dragoons or even the photon cannons. Can be also a mixture of that units for a better effect.
The only advatage of the photoc cannons is that they don't need support. Besides that, they are worse than anything else.

PvP defense early:

1 gate sheild batt tech

PvT defense:

flank placement with observer on T's choke

PvZ defense:

Zeal/Temp on your own choke

Attack them before they attack you. Use dragoons for invasion - they can get back to your base very quickly should trouble arise. Also, keep some dark templars hanging around your base just for safety. Make sure you have lots of detectors in your base as well as some cannons (yes, I said cannons), behind your nex. Cannons can be good if they are placed strategically, for detecting and anti air purposes. Just try not to have huge masses of them - they can be easilly taken out with gaurdians. In later game, when money is nearly infinite, they can be used to occupy center map and defend secondary bases.

I've never really been the type to attack first, not sure why, i just like counter-attacking.
My defense as Protoss usually consists of a few Photon Cannons here & there, mainly for their ability to detect cloaked units, other than that, i have about 4-5 High Templars on standby in case a mass army decides to come my way, and of course the standard Zealots & Dragoons.

I only really use Reavers for drops so they aren't really part of my ground offense. And i don't use Protoss air.

Photon cannons=newb cannons, That's what my clan always said.

The best defense is an offense man, if you constantly attack or harass them they will be too busy trying to stop you, or making defense, they won't bother attacking you. Especially try going all out for their worker units, they'll never leave their base if you cripple their economy.

I wonder how you play pvz w/o cannons. In pvt, they're very helpful versus vults. If he gets tanks, then that gives me time to defend.

I doubt toss can play a pvz without cannons unless you're playing newbies.

Um.. no. Couple of corsairs, maybe 3. When they get there, use the cloud, you get all the time you need to bring in your units. Jesus man... think before you post.

Uh.....no right back at ya. wtf are you saying? 3 sairs for what? mutas? rofl Umm.... hello muta/scougre>sairs. If you mean scouting or for overlords then you still need some cannons for defense. You may need them for the lurk on cliff strat zerg likes to do. If you're building sairs, then zerg will know about it and go hydras. Like I said before, right back at ya. zerg will overpower you easily if build just units.

no matter wat u do there is always some way a person can get by.
