Banning for botting

when u get tagged for botting. they just file ur cd key, and change the password to your account. but what im wondering is, do they check your ip address and perhaps ban other accounts that u may use.

im behind a router here and i got 3 comps connected to it. i got a spare set of keys that already have botting history. so im wondering if im safe on my other comps if i bot. all comps on the network have the same external ip address btw.

No, they cannot do this kind of thing.

Lets say your friend plays diablo 2, he lives 4 houses down from you. You guy's use the same ISP, right? You are botting, he isn't. You get banned, they check the IP and ban every account linked to that IP. Weird though, they can't trace the exact IP and they might accidently ban some of your friends accounts, who has a similiar IP...

So, no.

why cant they trace the exact ip??

and when u said "they check the IP and ban every account linked to that IP", both my comps have the same external ip address, so a friend from down the road couldn't be used an example since those ips are different :|

same ip range... your ip still changes just not too often....

you are not to worry. ip bans are an EXTREME measure, and they are only done if you hack thier servers. also you will get into a lawsuit if you did this.

now concerning the banned accounts. they WILL not link the accounts to the ip, they will link them to the cdkey. so thats why you should use your backup cdkey for botting.

ahh thanks sicloan thats what i was looking for.

i reckon theres gonna be another banning day very soon though. its been 3 months since the last. but maybe blizzard are waiting until 1.10 before they decide to have another one
