I'm trying to decide which to get. I probably can't get both, as it would suck up my entire life for at least a month if I played nonstop, but which would you recommend?

I know, it's not price that's stopping me from getting both. I just don't want to be addicted to two games during school that take forever to finish, and if I get both, nothing will stop me from playing both (short of physically tying me back from them, or burning them, but the former is unlikely and the latter would make buying them useless).

Get Dark Alliance 1. Then when you beet that get 2. Both are great especially Drizzt in DA 2 after you unlock him.

I own both for PS2 and I have no complaints.

DA 1 and 2 are crap. I've played through both of em a billion times, the only GOOD thing about 2, is being able to be Drizzt and Artemis...

BG 2 is a little better than BG1 IMO, but it's up to you.

Since that's the case, you should get Baldur's Gate and its expansion which I believe is Tales of the Sword Coast. That way you can beat that game and transfer your character(s) over to Baldur's Gate II and Shadows of Amn.

or better yet neverwinter nights (only prob is the mandatory expansions for extra coolness) it combines everything from baldur's gate that makes it kewl with some d2 elements (im talking multiplayer).

Already played through NWN, which is why I'd like to explore the world it's in a bit more. Although I didn't get the expansions. I should buy the game some time for the multiplayer.

(How do you further explore the rat sewer? Does it require multiple people or something? Or am I just being stupid? Do you even know what I'm talking about? Should I post? Am I asking too many questions?)

(Yes.)

I wouldnt buy either. I have played both and I would recomment buying Champions of Norrath. Its almost a replica of Baldurs Gate, but with some extra stuff. Better items, and better spells. Also Baldurs Gate is only 2 player, Champions of Norrath is multitapable.

I could care less about multi-player, actually :p I prefer BG over most DnD because, well, it has a better story line, and it was created by the great wizzards of Black Isle!

Planescape: Torment
Icewind Dale
Icewind Dale II
Baldur's Gate
Baldur's Gate II

Those are all Black Isle games I'd recomend. Never Winter Nights and Campions of Norrah aren't really true DnD either... They try to copy the oh so popular DnD elements, but they definately can not express them as well as Black Isle has. Before you say anything, I have played both, and I didn't like them nearly as much as any Black Isle game I've ever played.

I haven't played baldurs gate but I have baldurs gate II, it is pretty fun for a bit, but i always used to die easy. I finally got through the main quests a long time ago, and I haven't really played it since then. I guess after you get through it just isn't as fun.

I know, the length is kind of daunting... Of course, I could always wait to get it until summer, as I should have plenty of free time.

Is Icewind Dale II about the same as the first one? Because I've played that, but not the second. And Planescape looked good.

All Black Isle's games relate to one another. You can actually import your Baldur's Gate II character(s) over to Icewind Dale. I'd always recommend exporting your highest level characters over to a a new game! Planescape: Torment is the one exception... It has no true relation except for existing within the realm of DnD. It even eludes to the Sword Coast, Amn, and Baldur.

In a sense, Baldur's Gate (including sequel(s) and expansions) is well over 500 hours long! If you include the fact that the story can "continue" by exporting a BG II character to Icewind Dale and ID II, you can get one character to have DnD years to them.
