All I can say is, DONT DELETE IT!!! You will crash Windows XP and be forced to reinstall it. I think its in the WINDOWS folder, did you try searching amongst the huge file list?

It should be in the c:\windows\system32 folder, I'm pretty sure thats where mine is.

Does anyone remember the dos days of endlessly editing autoexec.bat and config.sys trying to get that new game to work? ack..

Then obviously autoexec.bat is a hidden file, and it is according to Windows XP. Its just to keep noobs from deleting it and crashing XP

Autoexec.bat should be in your C:\ drive.

On some systems, you don't need autoexec.bat.....

Start > Run > Msconfig > Autoexec.bat tab - see if there is actually a file.

And yes, it is in your root directory. After all, it doesn't want to search through system32 just to find a file for startup.*

Tools -> Folder Options -> (View Tab)

Find "Show Hidden Files and Folders" and check it.

Well then something is wrong. That file should be on every drive with a windows install on it. If it is a second HDD or something it won't have it...

I seriously suggest you speak with microsoft about this...or look through the knowledge base.

"I hate Windows XP."
