i dled an antivirus recently from a torrent without reading the comments first. when i read the comments it was obvious the antivirus was jam packed with viruses

i got avg fee edition to counter the viruses but the avg got owned really bad. the popups still kept popping and i was denied access to everything on my documents and my computer. i could do word and msn and crap.

so i was wondering what antivirus i should get. i dont wanna pay for it but i will if i have to.

Firefox and a brain works pretty well for me.*
+ NoScript add-on for those without brains :)

I like to manually screw with my viruses, it's nice. I use the kaspersky online scanner, and then go at them in safe mode with HijackThis and Spybot S&D (both free and extremely handy tools btw). Haven't run into anything that's been resistant to that and a bit of common sense.

If you really want to let a virus run rampant on your system, then undo all its changes, then you may want to consider using Sandboxie. And you can also sandbox your browser. What does this do? Simple: Think of it as a virtual computer. I run Internet Explorer because I am a 'tard, go to a seedy porn site and click one of those ads that offer amazing sex offers. I get infected. But the sandbox itself is the only thing infected - so you can watch it mess around with your system, then when you get bored, delete the sandbox and suddenly you don't have a virus.

Of course, there are ways of getting out of the sandbox but thankfully there's probably few software programs written for such a thing!*

i use both of these on a continued basis, and i can tell you right now, if you think Spybot is protecting you from everything, your going to get bit in the ass hardcore one day.

not saying its bad, but its not an antivirus.

i use to be the same way, didnt have an antivirus, but when you realize how easy it is to get any antivirus you want (anyone with a brain should be able to find one SOMEHOW, even if its AVG free version) you have to be a tard not to take SOMEKIND of protection

best combination imo:

Spybot
Adaware
Avast Pro
Hijack this

running those once a month/every 2 months, will keep your computer clean 99% of the time.

you could also pick up peer guardian 2.

i also really recomend getting bufferzone pro(30/year pricetag seems justified)

are u sure thats not just a difference of definitions?
i downloaded a file a while ago and was not planning to run when i found out what it was(.exe file for "Windows XP SP2"), set it in a "TO SCAN" folder, but forgot about it. (kept it hopeing it was just a virus binded to the legit program, which btw, turned out it was :D)

avg never saw it.

the instant i installed Avast pro, it kindly reminded me to get it the hell off my computer.

by all means, if someone isnt capable of getting there hands on something like avast pro, then i say go with avg, it sthe best free antivirus i can think of. but for anyone with the options, i suggest staying away and going with something better.
