Personally I can't stand 1st person. Your peripheral vision is too confined to what's ahead of you, and it's harder to find your target when you have to turn to hit them.
Third person not only gives you the advantage of knowing when danger is around a corner by positioning the camera the right way, but makes it easier to target multiple enemies, or where to turn to next to kill off your next foe.
