Am i the only oen that thinks forum awards are stupid as hell?

and for the whole month of february, 19 people have voted

NINTEEN.

thats not even a contest

whats the point in having awards if nearly nobody votes?

your awarded because 3 people thought your title was cool?

Well they have to advertise it better. Something like a banner advertising the awards and linking to a page. Put it right on top under the advertisements or above. For example here is something I whipped up







And maybe add:
Where you can compete for up to $25(USD) in cash!

Of course the graphic would be allot better.

Abuse the Forum Announcements.

Consider the fact that no one but Chit-Chat posters vote on that award. I think if the Diablo, StarCraft, and WarCraft people all found out about this through announcements, and word of mouth from other members, it'd help a lot too. Stuff like,

"You know {name}, you help a lot of people around the forums. Mind if I nominate you for the "most helpful member" award? You could win up to $25!"

i think AxL's idea is best. it would sure as hell catch anyones attention. if its big and you have to scroll past it, and its simple and gets the message across fast, most people would probably click on it.

I would also propose more time for the nominations and a seriously strong effort to remind everybody about the voting 48 hours before the deadline. It would also help if the threads about voting werent closed. If people can post the threads will not *dissapear* after the first day...

Of course, I've noticed that the traffic of the Forum Awards is really low. But, heck, the stickies are there... It's just that there are way too much of them, and people don't really read stickies...

After giving this a think through, here we go...

When the Forum Awards was first established, my announcement making powers were still rather limited, only allowing us to make stickies in Chit-Chat only. Even when my promotion was made to Staff Member, we initially agreed (between Tronga, Smash and Renzo then) not to use global announcements since the Forum Awards still seemed like a rather petty thing and only Chit-Chat posters knew about it then.

But after giving this a think through, you guys are right. The policies have changed and a new strategy is needed. Time to start advertising…

We intially had 10 days, but some complained that it was too long. So we shrunk it to 5 and it became too short. So 7 (i.e. exactly 1 week) should do the compromise. But yeah, maybe something like a reminder of 48 hours for people to start bombarding our inboxes.

Yes. The maximum length must fit the area in which the thread titles are, or else it would be too wide for the screen with the constant need to scroll sideways. As for the height, nothing more than around 50 to 65 pixels.

The point of them is not stupid, it's sort of cheesy yes, but they should be Advertised more.

You can't be nominated if you don't vote. Maybe that would help? I know I would vote more.(or start)
