Make nifty (realistic) terrain in seconds!
Disclaimer:
: Note: i do not claim to be an "expert" like Bolt and Omega (Tuxedo Templar). I am simply trying to help you guys out and make the SCUMS community at BF a little bit better . The following tutorial was written by me through my experiance. It will undergo many changes through the future and i hope you enjoy it. . I give complete credit to any skills i learned from www.staredit.net, probably the absolute best map making site i have ever seen. If any tutorials written by me resemble one found at staredit, it is probably because i have learned a lot of my skills from there. If i do write a similar tutorial to one at staredit you will see Original Concept/Tutorial by [name]. I do not assume full credit for all of the tutorials here. [/disclaimer]
You will learn to make nifty terrain using starforge. The above is just the tip of what you can make using this method and this program, and if you put in more than i did (about 5-10 mins for the above) than im sure you'll get some nice looking terrain.
Step 1:
Open up whatever you will be using to place the building on. I just created a new document. I suggest using Scxe to create the basic terrain and then using starforge for creating the more difficult details that you're learning from this tutorial.
Step 2:
Go to the terrain layer (layer < terrain) and click palette. You'll now see you have a whole bunch of small squares of different terrain. Scroll down until you get to the point where you have a bunch of wall like structures that can be used to make a buildings wall. I usually use a lot of different ones.
Step 3:
Now this is the hard part. Being creative, start mapping out one side of the building. There are many different tiles that can be used to make a wall, you just need to play around. After you get the basic outline of one side, go back to your palette and scroll around until you find a wall tile facing the opposite direction. Repeat. now that you have a basic outline, you can go through using wall tiles to build it upward. The roof is the hardest part.
Step 4:
Te ceiling is basically the same. Grab your palette and scroll around until you find a suitable roofing tile. They are usually a bit harder to see, but once you find one you wont have too much trouble building around. Remember how the building needs to look from the view point you're at.
Thats all there is too it! If you get something you like, then you can make it a brush, but thats a tut for another time. :wavey
