Alright...so im off to college in like 3 weeks, and I'll be carrying my laptop, pc, mp3 player, pda, digital camera, and a removeable harddrive with me...(and a bunch of other electronic goodies)

thing is...ive got a bunch of stuff on my computers im afraid of losing to some metal detector at some airport...and im pretty sure x-rays'll also do some damage...any solutions? and if not..is it safer to let an SD-card go through the x-ray machine thingy or the metal detector (i can just stick it in my pocket...i can store most of my important docs on an SD card..)

I doubt that the x-rays themselves would be able to damage anything, but I don't want to say you'd be totally safe, because I don't know about the other gadgets in those machines. It should be fine for you to request a person to inspect your luggage.

Yeah.. ask someone to inspect it and then it won't have to go through the x-ray.

Call ahead and ask the airport maybe, and chances are the person you talk to won't care and tell you to put them through so you might want to ask to have them searched instead (If they do that)
