I've only ever played single player Diablo 2 (Please spare me your wrath), and I just started the second character class I've ever chosen in the year I've owned the game. I've always been loyal to the Paladin for some reason before, however by the time I got my level 72 Frost Zealot/Vengence/Sacrifice (for synergy to Zeal) Paladin to Hell Act 1 (God, Nightmare Ancients were exactly that, nightmares. I had to drop potions everywhere and try over and over until they spawned with skills I could handle), he was getting royally stomped because it's hard to get good stuff on single player and I guess my skills just weren't the best choices. I decided on my next crack at going all the way that a Druid would allow me the melee fun I desire, but also give me some minions that'll hopefully help me rock my way to the end. Please give me some advice as to whether or not the build I dreamed up is viable to make it through single player hell. (I think I have v1.07...whatever came with the battle chest at wal-mart)
I plan to dump most of my skill points in to Vitality and Strength. Mostly because I like to run up and hit stuff and because the bonuses to vitality from druid skills are so worth my points and Werewolf gets lots of bonuses to attack rating.
I'm thinking 10 points in Werewolf, 10 points in Lycanthropy, 20 points in Heart of the Wolverine, 10 points in Dire Wolves, 10 points in Grizzly (I figure then I can use either the wolves or the grizzly to suit the situation I'm in, smashing many little monsters or taking on a single hard boss, and they're syngerzied to eachother so I haven't really lost anything). That's 50 points, plus the couple extra points I'll be getting from quests I'll need for the preresiquites, and I'm hoping that'll carry me through most of Nightmare. Then I'll probably max out Werewolf and move on to maxing Grizzly late in to Hell. Do you brighter more D-understanding people think this is viable? Is there some minor adjustments I could make or a skill I'm overlooking that'll benefit my Werewolf build more? I already have like 7 points in Lycanthropy, 8 in Werewolf, and 1 in Oak Sage, so I'm committed to the Werewolf build.
My werewolf looks like he hits slow. Even though he supposedly has like +30% IAS from Werewolf skill. What's up with that?
What weapon can I hope for toward the end? I think I need a shield just to socket with diamonds for resistances later in the game. On single player, I don't think I can survive without it. Most lycan builds suggest mauls. I can't afford the loss to resistances, unless somebody knows something I don't.
Can I use any runewords besides Pledge of the Ancients?
What's a good merc for me? Everything except a Rogue seems to get beat up quick. Will this later solve itself if I commit to another merc? I think that Holy Freeze guy in Act 2 would be a solid addition, but he's a chump early on, and he does dumb stuff. Also, I'm not going to be able to get him super good items on single player. I can't even get myself super good items, and he has to wear my hand-me-downs. Is the rogue the least retarded of them all? I think that's the biggest issue.
Anything else I might wanna know that you can throw in?
I know you're probably mad you had to read all this crap, and you probably want to say I suck, but keep in mind that I'd suck a lot less if you just answered the questions instead of saying I suck, thanks.
