Adding sockets in Act 5

Does anyone know how this is supposed to work? is there any kind of voodoo that we do?

I heard that u get sockets depending on the type of color (rarity?) the weapon is. I also heard that if it came from Hell mode it gets max sockets. I need to know this cuz i have 3 modes that i can add sockets on and im hesistant to do anything. Thanks and sorry if I seem a little noobish I started again a few weeks ago and havent gotten into depth as much as you vets have:fwink thanks again!

if ite white(normal) it gets the max amount of sockets the item can get. it its rare majic or uniqe i am pretty sure they can only gt 1 soc

that is not true i have socketted a magical claw in hell and i have gotten 2 sockets

the item level of the white item cant be too low or else its not gonna get max sockets (like a crystal sword from normal act2)

WRONG.

white = max
blue = random number from min to the max number of sockets.
gold = 1
