Were excited to announce that our planned team-up with Activision, first made public back in December 2007, is now a reality. All regulatory and shareholder approvals have been granted, meaning Blizzard Entertainment -- along with the other companies that made up Vivendi Games -- is now part of a new organization called Activision Blizzard.

While this transition doesnt impact our games, websites, personnel, day-to-day operations, or development philosophies, the combined resources of Activision Blizzard will make it easier than ever for us to deliver the best games possible to our players around the world. For more information, please check out our Activision Blizzard FAQ.

That's like Squaresoft getting bought by Enix, except Squaresoft got GGed making FF: The Spirits Within.

I wonder what lead Blizzard to actually getting bought out by a mediocre game development company.

True, but essentialy, it was because Squaresoft ruined themselves.

One big reason was, as I mentioned, was Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. The movie only made 30 million, when they spent 200 million making it.

Besides those though, not a lot of their games are good.

what magical fairy land did they expect to make 200 million to break even, then what alien race were they going to sell it too to make a profit.

That movie was ok, but like WTF, it didn't make much sense. Just some dark shadows that have the power to instakill humans on contact and had some love interest.

Square Films tends to pump too much coin into visuals and effects people, and not enough into the scriptwriters. Watch FF7: Advent Children, and it would pretty much prove it as well.

Well think of it like this, They had to get another studio (two actualy) to develop Starcraft Ghost. With ACtivision, they wouldn't really need to do that since they clearly have the resources to produce for consoles and port. Just one of many small things would benefit everyone.

Laharl

Two barely competent companies, merging together.

Gained by companies: 0
Gained by gaming industry: 5 (because the **** will be released under one name)
Both out of a possible ten.

And it took them HOW LONG to get Starcraft Ghost to work?

Well they had to get a studio, that didn't deliver than replace them.

Bad development, and with Activision any and all those problems would go away.

True. But we would need to see results of this Activision-Blizzard merge.
