About direct connect between two computer

i have two computers and want to have a friend come over and play without going to internet,the question is how do you connect?what kinda of cable do you need?all i have here is a USB link cable for file transfering,don't know it that works,if it do,how?

1 cat5 cross over cable, you're gonna have to have ethernet ports on either computers. if you're going one to one... if you wanna direct connect via hub then just a standard cat 5 cable per comp

I would suspect not.. he said direct connection.

Dude if you go to like... Best Buy or something, they have these cords that say specifically, 'direct cable connection.' And then there is directions to adjust your 'tcp/ip.' Then you can play with the 'LAN' settings.

i do have a router,and 2 comp was connected throught it,but how do you set things up?the game won't detect it,i think there must be an setting............

i'm posting to get my answer,plus this topic was sinking days before,i didn't triple posted in one single time.anyways thank you for bumping again for me with that BIG TROUBLE thingy,hope someone would come in and give some information more useful then that.
